Using Fire Pits at Vocational Trade Schools

December 5th, 2011

Fire pits can make an innovative addition to the public areas of trade schools, and many students have discovered the benefits of studying beside fire at home. Although taking classes at vocational schools can be a great way to get ahead in life, the truth of the matter is that most vocational trade schools are not terribly friendly or sociable environments. Unlike an university or community college, most students at vocational trade schools already have busy personal and professional lives. Adding some pits to the common areas of the school’s campus is a great way to give students an area to gather and make connections with one another.

There is something about a fire in a fire pit that encourages people from all walks of life to gather with one another. Because fire is such an universal symbol, gathering around these devices provides a good reminder to students that their fellow classmates are complex human beings and encourages people to make connections with one another. This allows students to start networking with one another to make meaningful academic and social relationships. They can also add to the general atmosphere of the campus and make a vocational school seem like a much more warm and inviting place.

In many cases, having a contemporary pit can make it much easier for vocational trade school students to focus on their studies at home. Because most vocational trade school students already lead pretty hectic lives, it can often be quite difficult to find the time necessary to sit down and complete one’s homework in piece. However, studying at home is considerably easier once you have set up a couple of places in your home that are completely dedicated to studying. If you have a fire pit set up adjacent to you study space, you will often find that it is much easier to change gears and focus more clearly on your assignments. » Read more: Using Fire Pits at Vocational Trade Schools

Going Back to School

July 5th, 2011

With the economy being so bad, more than just a few people are faced with the fact that they have no job, nothing in the works, and their benefits are about to run out. Amazingly, even with 99 weeks of unemployment benefits, individuals are still running out before they can find work. Before your situation gets that dire, consider going back to school to find a new career.

The first decision that has to be made is for what major or field of study you will be going back to school. If a person has the means and the time, they can pursue another degree in a field that is more hire-friendly. If time is of the essence, consider shorter programs, like tech or beauty schools. Most of these programs can be completed in 12 to 24 months and offer placement.

A mistake a lot of people make is in not training themselves for school again before diving in with both feet. Unemployment currently has a program that allows candidates to take one class at the local community school free if there is class availability. This one class, regardless of the subject, is a great way to get back into the habit of studying, doing homework, and taking tests without putting too much pressure on yourself. Get through that one class and if all goes well, it is time to ramp it up to full-time studies.

Now it is time to figure out how all of this is going to be paid for once you start going full-time. Make use of all federal, state, and school aid to offset many of the costs of the actual tuition. Whatever the aid does not cover, try to win some scholarships that can lower the final bill even further. If you are lucky, student loans will cover the remainder of the bill and there will be out-of-pocket money needed until after graduation.

Once you are back in school, there is no second-guessing. The time frame before unemployment benefits run out will be a tight one and you have to make the most of the time you have with benefits coming in. When they run out, it may be necessary to find a part-time job, but try to find something that is in the field of study so getting a job upon graduation will be that much easier. Before you know it, you will not only have a degree, or possibly a second degree, but you will finally be back in the workforce bringing home a real paycheck! » Read more: Going Back to School
